Hope You Are Honoring Your Dad This Weekend

FATHERS DAY WEEKEND......which tv dad was most like your dad?

My dad began working in a coal mine before he was 14.

Twice he traveled by boat to the US to start a new life.

His mother and 3 brothers were rejected and sent back to England and his mother died shortly after.

When he was 16 his father brought him across the Atlantic a second time.  He NEVER RETURNED to England.

When the Depression hit after working at many jobs when he could find work in McKeesport, PA, usually day at a time work he moved to Detroit in 1929/30 to find work.

He searched.

He took high school mail order classes (turned out to be a fraud)

He worked in an apprentice program until he earned the title of Master Tool & Die Maker.

Then he began night school on a Mechanical Engineering degree at Lawrence Institute of Technology.  He completed that program and his degree in 4 years in 1941

My dad provided.
he worked long hours
he worked his way from a draftsman to a Chief Gear Engineer at North American Rockwell before being forced into retirement when he turned 65.

Which of these TV dad?

perhaps some of Jim from Father Knows Best,
some of Hugh Beaumont from Leave It to Beaver,
some aspects of the father from my 3 sons

He was proud that ALL 3 of his sons
completed college degrees
All 3 sons became
1. Chief Engineer
2. Lt on a police force and head of a county FEMA program
3. a licensed Architect ( among a variety of other things )

My dad was never a baffoon
he never took advantage of, cheated or lied
he kept his emotions inside
