Creative Thinking for Artists & Designers
Creative Thinking for Artists & Designers
Since 1976 I have been committed and passionate about the teaching, training, coaching and consulting to help people one on one or in large audiences to accept:
1. ALL people around the Globe are born with capacities and potential to THINK CREATIVELY.
2. Creativeness, Creative Traits and Creative Thinking Tools & Techniques can be taught and learned until we die or no longer have control over our minds.
My teacher, mentor, and major professor for my Ph.D and eventually my colleague and close personal friend until his death taught me these and retaught them as long as he was alive.

another lesson from Dr. Torrance, Dr. T was that there are not CREATIVE PEOPLE and then all the rest who are not CREATIVE as still too my self-proclaimed experts, authors, professors still write and speak about around the globe.
This is the philosophy I have lived by since 1976
Dr helped teach me that for something to be taught, trained or learned it must be
Observable,
Replicable
Measurable.
Back in the 1950s is when he stopped trying to define or teach Creativity and instead began to focus for 50+ years of his life on CREATIVE THINKING.
WORKING DEFINITION:
The generation or discovery of new ideas or new combinations of old ideas in new ways.
New to the person creating or discovering them not necessary to an entire profession, occupation or culture or the world.
Then I asked each of the participants to use this exercise and choose all the traits that fit them now.
The second phase of this exercise including asking the participants to respond with holding up their hands
How many picked 5 or more?
10 or more?
15 or more
20 or more
25 or more
then we applauded for Suzy who found 30 and couple other people with more than 25.
School systems teach What and occasionally HOW
maybe WHEN, WHERE but seldom WHY?
They seldom teach what we has human beings will spend our lives doing....answering these questions
WHAT ELSE?
WHY ELSE?
WHERE ELSE?
WHEN ELSE?
WHO ELSE?
HOW ELSE?
those questions lead to creative ideas that possibly will lead to
SOLUTIONS
These are three creative thinking tools I shared that I believe any artists, full-time to hobbyist can use to push themselves and their work to higher and higher and higher levels of Creativeness.
We use this one to generate lists of famous artists or art movement.
My suggestion was to challenge yourself to think like them
paint, or draw like them while you develop more and more skills and techniques until you CREATE, DISCOVER or FIND your own specific style and techniques.
I did this as an architect, an cartoonist, a designer, a speaker even as a traveler around the world unconsciously originally and then deliberately once I saw what I had been doing.
Bob Eberle was the very first Creative Thinking Consultant I met in 1976 at a Gifted Education workshop held in Orlando, Florida. He listened over dinner and strongly recommended that I needed to attend CPSI
Creative Problem Solving Institute
at Buffalo State College.
The conference or institute was originally create by Alex Osborn of the famous ad agency BBD&O, Alex was the creative partner.
He created
BRAINSTORMING
the creative tool not the cliche used to label badly run meetings.
To learn more about the TOOL and the ridiculous cliche go to

He went on to create the world famous CPS Process
Creative Problem Solving Process
that Sidney J. Parnes helped him further develop from the 1960s past Alex's death and then eventually Sid's
The CSTC or Buffalo State Creative Studies Program continues to work on refining and updating the
Osborn - Parnes CPS Process to this day.
