I have seen you use a triangle, square, circle and squiggle during a keynote

Alan, I have seen you use a triangle, square, square and squiggle during a keynote. Is it something you invented?

No I modified it from I discover long time ago. The original 4 shapes I found in the early 80s while working with a team of consultants for the UGA Institute of Government's Management Development Program.

Here are the statistical results of one survey I did a couple years ago.
the original 4 shapes: left brain square triangle right brain letter Z (squiggle) Circle
I have searched using Google and other browsers many times. You will find the original square, triangle, circle, Z I only occasionally used it because the workshop leader who preceded me during the same Leadership Development Weekend Retreats around Georgia used it. I used my M.I.N.D. Design© and had people take both to look for commonalities in results. in the 1980s I changed the Z to a squiggle or spaghetti noodle and got the same results. During ACRE years ago I began using it so as not to conflict with or challenge the NBI in any way. Over the years I have used the revised or modified 4 Shapes in a specific way to give it more value 1. pick your favorite shape, a shape you might use for your logo 2. what is the 2nd shape. 3. what is your least liked shape 4. the 4th shape is whatever is left Then I have people line them up i.e.: for me squiggle, square, circle....triangle only if I have to. If you do a Google, Bing, Yahoo or any other browser search for the 4 shapes you will find: https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&tab=mw#hl=en&q=4+shapes+personality+test over one million hits. Some colleges use it with their entering freshman. I used it yesterday very quickly with a employee at my favorite deli counter. He asked me about my 4 rings

square, triangle, circle and (my substitute for the squiggle) I asked him to pick a shape.
He chose triangle.
I used the absolutely simplest version of the exercise.
Triangle you say? Do you consider yourself an organized person? Do you like to do things by the rules and in order? If I was in your apartment because you asked me to go get something could you tell specifically where it was in what closet, what dresser, etc. He answered Yes. as I generally would expect him to.
Does it uniformly work across cultures?
No, based upon my using it off and on for nearly 40 years there are various reasons why people pick specific shapes over the other 3.
If you made a Bell Curve of all people who are asked..... the majority would be in the middle and pick a shape that has some correlation with some aspects of their behavior. Once in awhile I have attempted to do studies using the SHAPES, M.I.N.D. Design, NBI, Herrmann, KAI to see if they generally report then same results. Typically such surveys do. I did a study in 1984 of 300 instruments using 300 UGA students from 13 majors and the correlation results were in the .90+ range http://www.cre8ng.com/2015-shapes-survey
